I didn’t know what to expect from Faithful Companions because I had never even had a sick pet before. As my cat, Jenny, was actively dying at home, a friend gave me the FC phone number. When I called them for some initial information, JoEllen could not have been nicer. She provided detailed information and answered all of my questions. When Jenny died 2 days later, I called back and spoke with Tom. He, too, could not have been more kind. He said someone was currently headed to a pick-up location north of me and would text him to turn west and come to my house first. The driver got there within an hour.

I had an image in my mind of someone just grabbing Jenny, putting her in a bag, tossing her into a vehicle and driving away. I was beyond shocked to open the door and see, standing before me, a clean-cut, handsome young man, wearing sharp, casual, professional attire. As he stepped inside, he introduced himself as Jeremy. He had the kindest face, tone of voice and demeanor. He didn’t know me or Jenny but I could tell that he really cared. He asked how I was doing and then asked about Jenny and her life. There was no rush, whatsoever. We just talked. I asked him about himself and the very special work he did, and he answered other questions I had about what was going on. After about 10 minutes, he left the house and came back in with a heavy duty, well-made cardboard box. He showed me the soft bedding inside. Then, he picked Jenny up and put her into the box (I didn’t look). He closed the lid, wrote her name on the front and gently carried the box out.

The very next day, I received a call asking whether it was a convenient time to drop Jenny’s ashes off. Soon, Ethan was on my doorstep, another clean-cut, handsome young man, wearing sharp, casual, professional attire. During our two-minute exchange, he was also compassionate and caring. He gently handed me a sturdy, high-quality, stand-up bag, reminiscent of the kind you get when you buy seriously high-end makeup, but better. Inside was a beautiful small brown box containing Jenny’s ashes.

Every step of the way, from my first call with JoEllen, to Tom when Jenny died, to Jeremy who picked her up, to Ethan who brought her back home, I was astounded by their professionalism, grace and love. It was better than anything I could have ever have dreamed of, which greatly aided in my grieving.
