Aspen Mackenzie

Aspen Mackenzie had just turned 16 and a half years old last week. She was in end stage kidney failure. At 12 weeks old, Aspen picked me to be her mom when I went to get a new male kitten as a companion for another cat I had at home. I left that day with Aspen and her brother, Dakota. Over the years, we fostered 8 kittens, and we always called Aspen “The Welcoming Committee”, as she she the one to bathe the kittens and make sure they went with her to get food and she didn’t let them stray too far. Often the kittens would fall asleep cuddled up to her. Kitties would get adopted and new ones would come in and Aspen was always ready. Aspen joins her kitty sisters Zoey, Lightning, and Savannah, and her doggy sister Sparky, over the Rainbow Bridge, as well as her human brother, Noah. She leaves behind her littermate and brother Dakota, her cat brother Toby, her doggy sister Mandy, her dad and I, and her four human siblings, Justin, Sierra, Jessica, and Audra. Over the years Aspen was also “motherly” to the human babies, protecting them and sitting by them to purr. As they progressed to toddlers, Aspen was patient with them and enjoyed playing with and cuddling her humans. Every night she layed on my head and purred and kissed my face until she was too sick to kiss me anymore, and she still purred and snuggled up to my head. Aspen will be sorely missed here on Earth but heaven just gained a rock star. You’ll always be in my heart, Sweet Pea! We will forever be reunited one day and it won’t be until then that my heart will be whole. I love you, Aspen Mackenzie!
